Dr. Stephen Wilson is currently the Chief Dental Officer of Blue Cloud Pediatric Surgery Centers, PSC, a corporation with multi-state ambulatory surgery care holdings, and a consultant in the profession of Pediatric Dentistry, specifically in the field of child sedation for dental procedures. He also is Adjunct Professor in the Division of Pediatric Dentistry at Nationwide Children’s Hospital consulting on sedation practice in the Advanced Pediatric Dentistry Training Program. He teaches sedation periodically at UNLV School of Dentistry in the Advanced Pediatric Dentistry Program. He has served as a faculty member, speaker, and consultant to The Institute for Pediatric Dentistry.
Dr. Wilson received his dental degree (D.M.D.) and Doctorate in Physiology (Ph.D.) at the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky. His residency training in Pediatric Dentistry was done at the University of Louisville and Kosair-Children’s Hospital. Dr. Wilson also has a Master’s degree (M.A.) and Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Psychology both of which were obtained from Eastern Illinois University.
Dr. Wilson is a board-certified pediatric dentist and a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. He has held the positions of Professor and Chair of Pediatric Dentistry at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and at Denver Children’s Hospital, and Professor at The Ohio State University College of Dentistry and Program Director at Columbus (now Nationwide) Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Wilson has served as a Director of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and as President of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. He is the Director of the AAPD-sponsored contemporary Sedation Course which is presented twice a year and includes simulation of sedation emergencies. He was awarded “Pediatric Dentistry of the Year” by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry in 2007. He has published over 115 peer-reviewed papers, has written numerous chapters in textbooks and has published his own textbook on sedation of children entitled “Oral Sedation for Dental Procedures in Children”. He has spoken at numerous local, national, and international meetings. Dr. Wilson’s research interests and clinical passion includes child behavior in the dental clinic, sedation procedures involving children, and electronic monitoring of physiological systems during sedation.
