Bio

I am a well-established clinician in the field of Pediatric Dentistry with extensive experience in Early Childhood Caries (ECC) research after over 25 years of full-time service in clinical preventive and restorative interventions on young children in school, clinic and hospital settings, including advanced behavior management techniques. This experience has allowed me to witness the extreme need and poor access to care that is a significant problem for some segments of our population. As a diplomate and examiner for the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a long-time faculty to dentists, pediatric dental residents, pediatricians family practice MD residents, I am aware of the need to coordinate services among medical specialties to promote comprehensive care and to promote a unified message of prevention to patients. My commitment to inter-professional collaborations is especially important now that it is clear that the risk factors that cause dental caries are common to other chronic diseases like obesity, diabetes asthma. As a and patient/child advocate I, am actively involved with the Scientific groups of national and international pediatric and research groups (AAPD, IAPD, IADR) which allows me to be current with the latest scientific evidence, and exchange knowledge and experiences with fellow researchers. My research recently focused on the use of Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF), have the aim of pursuing methods of caries management that are less invasive, improve patient experience and result in better outcomes of oral and overall health. I am also dedicated to the translation of scientific findings into of clinical care paths to improve patient care. These experiences have resulted in my participation with expert groups under the auspices of AAPD for the development of Evidence-based guidelines for clinical practice, and the CAMBRA group for the dissemination of risk-based caries management protocols for children, as well as invitations to present this material to varied audiences worldwide.
